The LED was flashing 6 times and the buffalo software could not see the drive hence I had no access. I am not too bad with computers and looking at the NAS box I can only see one screw (for the fan) and what looks like two holes (tabs) at the bottom, I have removed all the labels and see nothing underneath, anyone any idea how I get this thing out It is a Bufffalo LS-CH500L. It could be a networking problem, a file permission problem, or a device problem. If you cant access your data it could be a software issue fixable by the firmware upgrade but it could also be the disk inside is damaged, its not clear what you mean by no access to my data. Im not sure of your knowledge so dont think Im telling you to suck eggs but the NAS is just a box, the hard drive inside is just a normal disk drive that you would find in your PC that should just unplug. If I were you I would take out the disk drive and hook it up to your PC just to check that your HDD is actually not damaged before you update the firmware on the NAS enclosure. Likewise, the NAS enclosure will have built in software which is what they are asking you to upgrade. I forgot to ask the question, will this update wipe my data from the drive It took 80 mins to get through on the phone so I am hoping someone has the answer foe me.
